"Yoga Nidra" or "Yogic" Sleep

Practice Yogic Sleep or Psychic Sleep or "Yoga Nidra" while lying down in "Shavasana" or the Corpse Pose (i.e., preferrably, without a pillow). If you have to use a pillow, use a thin and soft pillow. Practice with your eyes closed, stay awake, do not sleep. Also, if you have a Yoga Mat, practice by lying flat on the mat (this might be better, since we are all neurologically conditioned to fall asleep if we lie on our bed --- and the key is to keep your eyes closed, without sleeping).

Before clicking on the link below to begin the practice, you should make all necessary arrangements like turning the light off / low lighting, covering your body with a blanket, etc. Once the audio begins, you have to lie down with eyes closed, and can't make any movement for 37 to 38 minutes. A NOTE ON WHAT TO "RESOLVE" DURING YOGIC-SLEEP

Once you learn the basics of Yogic Sleep practice, you may be interested in deeper Yogic Sleep / Yoga Nidra practices. In particular, the following disorders / illnesses can be overcome by having a corresponding positive "resolve" introduced into your Yogic Sleep practice:

1. Insomnia
2. Stress and Anxiety
3. Obesity / Overweight
4. Backaches
4. High Blood Pressure
5. Depression
6. Bipolar (Manic / Depressive Symptoms)
7. Anger
8. Addictions like smoking / drinking / drugs

Please send an e-mail to sam (at) samyogi.com and Sam Yogi will guide you personally at no charge on what to resolve while practicing Yoga-Nidra. In particular, resolves to remove negative tendencies are less beneficial. More beneficial are resolves of a spiritual nature. What follow are some examples:

1. I will try to be of spiritual and psychological benefit to this world, or to everyone I come across.
2. I will work towards eradicating world-hunger.
3. I will be a positive channel for Brahman's influence on everyone I come across.
4. I will never hurt others, while uplifting myself spiritually by striving to realize the fact that "I am Brahman."
5. I will be Brahman's force for positive change on this planet.
6. I will practice and preach vegetarianism.

What are suggested above are some guidelines. Please form your own resolve as per your tendencies, and negative traits will disappear. For example, by practicing vegetarianism, you can get rid of obesity.

Prayer Donation / Guru Dakshina

If you benefited from any of the above podcasts, please consider making a prayer donation / Guru dakshina. In the Vedanta tradition, at the end of knowledge acquisition, a "dakshina" or tuition is paid to the preceptor or Guru, and the Guru acknowledges the fact that the "Sishya" or student is now at par with the Guru in terms of knowledge / realization / bliss. (Caution: However, in behavior, the Sishya should always respect the Guru and should never claim that he / she is equal to the Guru.) Please use the secure PayPal pay box to make your donation / pay your "Dakshina" or tuition. Thank you, Hari Aum, Blessings from Infinity!
