Visuddhi Chakra
The Visuddhi Chakra corresponds to the throat in the physical body. In Sanskrit, Visuddhi means the process of purification; it is accepted by Yogis that the Bindu-Visarga secretes amrita or ambrosia or nectar, which drops down to the Visuddhi. The Visuddhi purifies the body and mind by using this nectar. This nectar can also nullify internal and external poisons; the awakened Visuddhi can help the Yogi in absorbing and transforming life's poisonous and negative experiences into a state of bliss. Visuddhi awakened Yogis claim that the drops of nectar dripping down from the Bindu-Visarga cause the feeling of blissful intoxication. The Visuddhi is associated with Akasha or space, the subtlest of the five elements (the other four being earth, water, fire, and wind). Meditating on this Chakra can result in the mind feeling pure, empty like space, free of thought. A Yogi with a healthy and active Visuddhi can generate vitality, health, purity, and longevity. The Visuddhi is also associated with the Vijnanamaya Kosha or the knowledge sheath; and the pranic energy Udana flows from this Chakra. When the Visuddhi is properly awakened, the knowledge sheath helps the Yogic practitioner with psychic developments such as clairaudience.
As per the subtle theory of Chakras, the Visuddhi controls the auditory sensory area (located in the two temporal lobes of the cerebral cortex of the brain) and the vocal motor organ (which controls the speech areas in the brain - the Broca's area and the Wernicke's area). The beeja mantra or master key for awakening the Visuddhi Chakra is Ham.
