Svadhisthana Chakra
Svadhisthana comes from the sandhi of Sva (own) and Adhisthana (dwelling place). So, Svadhisthana literally means one's own abode. This Chakra is the storehouse of all our latent or deep-rooted desires, samskaras (or tendencies), and impressions. Desires accumulated from past lives (if you believe in reincarnation, that is) are accumulated in this Chakra, some of which can manifest in this life. Whereas the Mooladhara controls the coccygeal plexus of nerves, the Svadhisthana controls the sacral plexus, and is located at the root of the spine. Like the Mooladhara, it is related to the pranic force Apana, and is associated with Tamas (lethargy, dullness, darkness, negativity, ignorance). The Svadhisthana is associated with the Pranamaya Kosha (or pranic sheath).
As per the subtle theory of Chakras, the Svadhisthana controls the reproductive system (ovaries, uterus, testes, prostrate). The Beeja (seed) Mantra or master key for awakening the Svadhisthana Chakra is Vam.
