NIYAMA
A “Niyama” is a rule. As per Patanjali in his Yoga-sutras, Niyamas include the following:
1. Shaucha or cleanliness (both internal and external)
2. Santosha or contentment
3. Tapas or mortification
4. Swadhyaya or self-study
5. Ishwara-Pranidhana or God-Worship
As propounded by Brahmavid Sam Yogi, a mortal or Jeeva is Brahman with the covering of “Avidya” or ignorance. God or creator or Ishwara is Brahman with the covering of “Maya.” Avidya is of the form of dark ignorance, and when removed by bringing in the light of knowledge, vanishes to reveal to the Jeeva that he or she is Brahman. Similarly, Ishwara is the Creator or the Creative Power of Brahman (or God), and Ishwara uses the “upadhi” or title or covering of “Maya” to create this universe. So, this universe is “Prapancha” or nothing but a “Maya-Jala.” A ‘jala” is a net, and we are all caught in this net of Maya, just like humans catch fish using a fish-net. To learn more about the equality or equity of Jeeva or individual soul, Brahman or the source-of-all-energy, and Ishwara or the Maya / creative power of Brahman, listen to the following discourses by Brahmavid Sam Yogi:

2. Vedanta-Sutras by Badarayana Vyasa
