Sadhana Chatustaya

(The Four Means)

The four means, as prescribed in Vedanta, refer to Viveka (or discrimination), Vairagya or (non-attachment), Sat-Sampatti (six treasures), and Mumukshuta (intense desire for liberation from bondage). If the six treasures are taken up and mastered together, it becomes easy for someone with adequate discrimination and sufficient non-attachment or "Vairagya" or dis-passion to develop an intense desire for liberation or "mumukshuta." One then should proceed to meet her spiritual guide, who can give her a series of discourses to listen to. The art of listening is called Shravana.
