Ashtavakra Gita (Compilation of 44 Discourses)
(Dialogs between Sage Ashtavakra and King Janaka)
In
the following discourses, Brahmavid Sam Yogi explains word for word the
meaning of each of the "shlokas" in the first 18 chapters (18th chapter is 76% covered until now...).
In the first chapter, the teacher Ashtavakra (literally means
bent or "Vakra" at eight or "Ashta" different places, to find out why,
please listen to the 15th discourse)
imparts the highest
knowledge there is, to King Janaka. In the 2nd chapter, King Janaka
asserts that he has figured it out (as to what this true knowledge is).
In the third chapter, Ashtavakra tests if King Janaka really got this
knowledge, and starts explaining in more detail the nature of this
"Brahma Jnana" or the "Knowledge of Brahman." This continues until the
6th chapter, and Janaka speaks again in the 7th chapter. Then
Ashtavakra further instructs Janaka in chapters 8 to 11. In chapters
12, 13, and 14, Janaka speaks, giving a rare glimpse into the mind of a
true seeker, who surely but steadily, is showing the signs of a
"Jeevan-Muktah" or liberated-while-living.
Ashtavakra
Gita comprises of a total of 20 chapters, including Chapter 18 with a
hundred shlokas (these hundred hymns are the ultimate in non-dualistic
discourse by Ashtavakra), and Chapters 19 and 20, where Janaka reflects on (Manana) and reiterates (Nididhyasana) what he has learned and why he is a Jeevan-Mukta
(liberated in life).
Ashtavakra Gita, unlike the Srimad-Bhagavad Gita [which can be interpreted as both dualistic (or Dvaita) and monistic (or Advaita)], is one
of the most important treatises on "Advaita" Vedanta or the Vedantic
philosophy that this "Atman" or Individual Soul is nothing but of
the same essence or spirit or energy as "Brahman" or the
Spirit-that-moves-in-All-Things or God or "Infinite Intelligence" or
the Source-of-All-Energy or the Truth-Most-Holy or Allah or the
Heavenly-Father. Here, in the 44 discourses below, "Mumukshus"
